Can you name some of the top mobile game companies and biggest or most popular gaming brands? Here are several to start:

Almost everyone under the age of thirty-five who owns a mobile device has likely played Snake at one point or another. While a version of Tetris for the Hagenuk MT-2000 has gone down in history as the first mobile phone game, Snake for Nokia devices was the game that popularized mobile gaming and really planted its roots.

But due to tech limitations, mobile games did not advance until smartphones overtook the market in the mid-2000s. After Apple introduced its App Store, it opened the door for mobile software monetization options. Then, titles like Angry Birds, Puzzle & Dragons, and Candy Crush Saga took the world by storm. After some ups and downs, by early 2022 global mobile game revenue hovered at around $100 billion per year — and mobile game spending is projected to hit $138 billion by 2025.

Here, we look at five of the most popular mobile gaming companies that are not only changing the game, so to speak, but are dictating trends in the global mobile gaming market.

Top mobile gaming brands:

Evolution Gaming

When it comes to the world of online gaming, Evolution is the casino product supplying king. The company’s creations can get found on all the premium gambling sites like Casumo and most crypto gaming platforms on the Web. While Evolution’s reputation is mainly as a supplier of live dealer action, it also has multiple slot developers/providers under its wing. These include gaming juggernauts like Red Tiger, NetEnt, and Big Time Gaming. Although, they have gotten allowed to operate as stand-alone brands. Still, anyone would be hard-pressed to find a mobile casino site that does not carry Evolution’s games.

Zynga

Zynga is a San Francisco-based developer that made its mark on the world with the Facebook game FarmVille, a massive hit in most corners of the globe, hitting ten million active daily users within six weeks of its release. Yet, Zynga did not rest on its laurels, and it expanded its gaming portfolio with the hugely successful Words with Friends franchise, Zynga Poker, and CSR Racing. In January 2022, Take-Two Interactive, the owner of Rockstar and 2K, announced that it reached a deal to acquire Zynga for $12 billion but decided to keep the brand separate.

EA Mobile

EA mobile is the mobile offshoot of video game behemoth Electronic Arts, dedicated to developing and publishing smartphone software. It began its operations in 2004 and has produced various products in multiple game genres, including puzzles, racing simulators, fighting games, and more. They are most famous for their NBA, NFL, and MLB branded releases and Worms World Party.

Niantic

Formerly known as Niantic Labs, this is another San Francisco software developer famous for its augmented reality mobile products, Pokemon Go and Ingress. The first is the second most-played mobile game of all time, while the latter is one of the pioneers of AR gaming. Its sequel got released in 2018, title Ingress Prime, and received more or less decent reviews. Other notable Niantic games are Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, Pikmin Bloom, and the up-and-coming Transformers: Heavy Metal Peridot.

SYBO Games

Founded in 2010 in Copenhagen, Denmark, Sybo Aps is a mobile game entertainment studio established by Bodie Jahn-Mulliner and Sylvester Rishøj Jensen. Their top product is Subway Surfers, released in 2012, which ranks as the third most-played mobile game ever, amassing over one billion downloads. It is a piece of gaming software that has won several high-end awards. In 2018, SYBO debuted a series of animated short films based on this game, which amassed over one hundred and seventy million views in the first half of 2020 alone. Other renowned SYBO titles are Cosmic Cab and Powerflow. Nevertheless, these never reach the heights of Subway Surfers.
