Want to volunteer in your community, but think it’s too much effort to find volunteer opportunities? Now you can try out a free volunteer app called CivicRush that makes it easy to create and find community service and civic events.
Available in the US in English and Spanish, CivicRush lets you create and share an event in just minutes — or you can see and instantly sign up for community events in your area.
Whether you care about the environment, education, social justice or other important causes, you can use a community service and civic engagement app like CivicRush to improve life for people in your part of the world — or even the whole world. You can use the app to promote community groups, non-profit organizations, company volunteer efforts, fundraisers, civic events, political campaigns — you name it.
How CivicRush works as a volunteer app
To use CivicRush for your organization’s next civic event or volunteer project, just download the app (links below) and then take a minute or two to enter your event information. You can also enter images like a photo and logo.
After you create a CivicRush event, you can share it to social media or share via text, chat, or email — all right in the app. When someone clicks the link to your event, it will automatically open to your event in the app if they’ve downloaded it.
If someone who clicks your link hasn’t downloaded the app, they’ll see a web page of your event with a link to download the app from there.
Once at an event, participants can use the CivicRush app to self-check in and check out — an especially useful feature for big events. During and after an event, participants can share photos via the app gallery.
After an event is over, event organizers can track event results to praise volunteers or to publicize results. And data-minded organizers can even analyze event information to share and to improve upon for future events.
CivicRush in action as a community service app
During its annual MetaConference this year in New Orleans, Metaformers debuted CivicRush with a big volunteer event to prepare and deliver 200 meals for New Orleans homeless people. Dozens of volunteers used the app to sign up, check in, share event photos, and register for other New Orleans events if they wished. And organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area — where CivicRush was born — are also using the app.
In the Bay Area’s East Palo Alto, Latino education and empowerment nonprofit Nuestra Casa uses CivicRush for community outreach and organizing events. And over in San Leandro, a little league baseball team from Washington Manor Junior League used CivicRush to organize events such as planting trees in their local baseball park and preparing meals for homeless people in neighboring Oakland (video link).

The CivicRush civic engagement and community service app is available now in English and Spanish, and is currently limited to the United States. Metaformers says it’s working to make the volunteer app available in many more countries and languages in the near future.
