Amazon has announced Amazon Live App Testing, a free mobile developer tool that lets you distribute your Amazon Appstore app to your pre-defined set of testers before you go live. Your testers will be able to sample the full suite of Amazon services, including in-app purchasing.
Amazon says the idea behind the service is that it allows you to gather feedback, improve quality, increase stability and optimize the experience before you push your app live for all customers to download.
Amazon Live App Testing allows you to invite testers of your choice by adding their email address to Live App Testing. Once testers are invited to test, they get an email with instructions to download the test app and begin testing against Amazon’s production environment. Only invited testers will be allowed to download and test your app, and the tool will keep track of who you have invited.
As a part of Live App Testing, you can test your apps on any Android or Amazon Fire device, including the Fire TV and Fire phone, which started shipping at the end of July.
You can upload improved versions of your app using the console, without having to submit a new app. You can also view a report to see how the test is going, including the number of crashes. Of course after you’ve finished testing your app, you can publish it the Amazon Appstore.
Amazon Live App Testing is available now. Amazon has posted a step-by-step guide to get you started, or you can just dive in here.
