Unless you got lucky this morning when Apple started selling tickets to its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), you probably aren’t going. Even at a pricey $1,599, the tickets to the event — to take place in San Francisco June 10-14 — sold out in a record time of just two minutes.
But fret not, because even if you couldn’t afford the tickets or weren’t lucky enough to snag them, this year Apple plans to post the training session videos online while the conference is taking place. The videos will be available to all registered iOS and Mac developers.
If you are a student developer, you can try to impress Apple by creating your own app and win a free conference ticket. Apple’s WWDC 2013 scholarship will reward 150 winners with one free ticket apiece. To qualify, you must be a full-time or part-time student, 13 years or older, and a current member of Apple’s iOS Developer Program, iOS Developer University Program, iOS Developer Enterprise Program, or Mac Developer Program.
To score a free ticket, you then have to create an app that tells Apple just who you are. As the company explains it:
Use your creativity and coding skills to build an app that tells us about you. Your app should highlight development projects you’ve worked on, your educational and professional background, technical skills, and interests. Your app must be designed for iOS or the Mac, programmed using Objective-C, and signed with a digital certificate issued to you as part of your Apple Developer Program membership.
Interested students can submit an application starting April 29 at 9 a.m. PT. All applications have to be in by May 2 at 5 p.m. PT. For details, download the application form (PDF link).
