Innovative Method of Biobehavioral Credentials Deliver Frictionless Authentication to Prevent Fraud using Dynamic Level of Assurance

IRVINE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–SecureAuth, a leader in next-generation access management and authentication, announces that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) granted the company four groundbreaking methods for authenticating users’ claimed identities for frictionless user access using automated risk-based control behavioral modeling. Capabilities derived from these patents are included in SecureAuth’s core platform and mobile authentication products.

The USPTO issued U.S. Patent No. 11,101,993, entitled ”Authentication and Authorization Through Derived Behavioral Credentials Using Secured Paired Communication Devices” to the company on August 24, 2021 and U.S. Patent No. 11,133,929 entitled, “System and Method of Biobehavioral Derived Credentials Identification” on September 28, 2021. The methods disclosed in these patents allow for detecting Biobehavioral® derived credentials to provide identification for use in access management to ensure secure access to a logical or physical asset.

A Biobehavioral® derived credential is one that is drawn from a combination of human biological features and behavioral activities. It is used to provide proof of identity by calculating a unique and recognizable signature that serves as the secure key and identifier. SecureAuth created a method for artificial Intelligence to learn and exploit the unique behaviors of users as a new form of credential to create a behavioral based key. The derived key is a dynamic, time-based key used at the time of access to authenticate an identity. This system allows for a frictionless authentication process as well as the ability to predict a user’s digital behavior and patterns and take preemptive action to prevent fraud.

The USPTO also issued U.S. Patent No. 11,005,839, entitled “System & Method to Identify Abnormalities to Continuously Measure Transaction Risk” on May 11, 2021. The methods disclosed in this patent include capturing the behavioral and contextual factors of a user interacting with a claimed identity’s associated devices and calculating a dynamic level of assurance (DLOA) as the confidence score and comparing it to a threshold risk score to determine the authenticity of aimed identity. The company invented a method for creating and using a DLOA to constantly re-grade an identity’s level of trust in real time. The DLOA can change depending on the level of risk associated with a transaction. The benefits of these methods include reducing difficulties in gaining access to secure systems and/or facilities (i.e., “friction”) for legitimate users, elevating trust in platform exchange and injecting preventive flows and measures when encountering potential threats.

“The traditional password-based paradigm must be transcended. Digital authentication must be re-conceptualized beyond a simplistic ‘in’ vs. ‘out’ binary decision made in isolation. As we continue to innovate across new behavioral modeling techniques, SecureAuth delivers enhanced identity protection and ensures access is only granted and maintained for the true identity,” said Shahrokh Shahidzadeh, Chief Technology Officer, SecureAuth. “This game-changing technology uses machine learning to learn and leverage individual behaviors to increase assurance levels and security.”

In addition, the USPTO issued U.S. Patent No. 11,252, 573 entitled “System and Method for Rapid Check-In and Inheriting Trust Using A Mobile Device” to the company on February 15, 2022. The system disclosed in this patent allows for rapid access or check-in when arriving at a secure facility by inheriting derived trust from a user’s mobile device and behavioral modeling. The system allows an identity to be continuously proven based on both the user’s digital behavior and biometric attributes.

The system disclosed herein prevents fraud, removes friction, improves workflow and allows for “touchless” authentication.

As a leader in the industry, SecureAuth is a powerful innovator with 47 issued patents across identity and access management, adaptive authentication, passwordless authorization and ID proofing.
