In Canada, the RBC DRIVE app is a must-use application for car owners, centralizing all car-related needs in one, intuitive mobile / web application. DRIVE app users have access to a digital glove box that includes the value of their car, recall and safety notices, news alerts, gas discounts, rewards points, and numerous valuable services for drivers and car owners alike. DRIVE was created by the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) Ecosystem Group, which is dedicated to creating services and products that reduce friction in customers’ day-to-day lives.
After downloading RBC DRIVE you can create a new profile, or sign in through social channels like Facebook and Google. Next, you select your province and add a car either through License Plate or VIN. This ability to add cars through a license plate is new for Canadians and is an example of innovation and simplicity that RBC is focused upon. The app also has built-in Optical Character Recognition (OCR), allowing a VIN to be uploaded by simply scanning the barcode with the camera on a mobile phone.
RBC Drive key features
Once you provide a License plate or VIN, the DRIVE app decodes the car and shows the Make, Model, Year, Trim and Style. The app also shows the current value of the car and gives a value depreciation estimate over time (valuable information for car owners to trade in). At the same time, you’re given a list of the recalls relevant to your car. Often with change of address or used car purchase, the manufacturer lacks contact details to deliver recall notices, and DRIVE bridges that gap.
The RBC DRIVE app provides a secure digital glove-box for easily scanning and storing your important car documents such as registration, insurance records, roadside assistance, maintenance history, and more. The app ensures that these documents are always available when needed. Based on these documents, DRIVE can determine upcoming expirations and automatically send you reminder notifications of important deadlines.
DRIVE also uses predictive intelligence to understand your driving behavior and presents you with customized news, articles and partner offers. Through a partnership with Petro-Canada, DRIVE not only offers you discounts and rewards points for buying gas, but also lets you search for nearby Petro-Canada gas stations, their hours of operation, and directions. DRIVE also has a digital wallet to store the Petro-Canada loyalty card.
In DRIVE’s private beta version, the app integrates with an IoT device that captures car information and provides you with valuable insights. For example, DRIVE can diagnose the problems of the car, provide repair estimates, and help you book a repair appointment through the app. If you’re self-employed or drive for business, DRIVE will record every trip and generate reports that can be used for tax filing purposes.
If you’re looking to maximize the value of your car, DRIVE also calculates your car’s future value against loan payments and identifies the right time to trade-in for a new car.
The RBC DRIVE app was designed and implemented by Synechron. The app is available throughout Canada for iOS, Android, and the Web.
